Obituary

momMabel Cooley, 87, beloved mother and dear friend to many, passed away on June 27th at the Regency Village nursing home in Webster, TX.  She was born on May 9th, 1927 in Vansant, Virginia to Walter and Margaret Perkins.

Mabel and her 4 siblings grew up as homesteaders in the mountains of western Virginia in a farmhouse her father built with a grand wrap around porch and a tin roof that made beautiful music when it rained. Mabel graduated from Council High School in Honaker, VA where she played basketball and then attended nurses training in Knoxville, TN where she received certification as a registered nurse.  She worked as a nurse for more than 30 years in various healthcare settings including private duty nursing in Knoxville, TN, Galion Hospital, Crestline Hospital and Village Care Nursing Home.

Mabel married Charles Cooley (deceased) in 1954 in Alcoa, TN.  They were married for 48 years.  Mabel and Charles moved to Galion in 1965.  Mabel was a member of the Fortnightly Club, Golden Age Club, Red Cross volunteers, Women’s Hospital Auxiliary and League of Women Voters.  She greatly enjoyed being with her friends, playing golf, loving her family, and singing the praises of her children.

Mabel is survived by her three children, Victor Cooley of Seabrook, TX, Charles Randall Cooley, Jr of Albuquerque, NM and Katherine Cooley of Cary, NC.; her grandchildren Nicole (12) and Beck (8) Vilas Boas and her many nieces and nephews in Virginia.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Margaret Perkins, her husband, Charles Cooley and her siblings Joe, Irene, Exie and Palmer Perkins.
